Thoughts Of Our Outgoing President

I gazed at the small green badge clutched tightly in my hand and felt a mix of emotions: sadness, nostalgia, and most of all — pride.
Handing our positions over to a new council felt like the end of an era: the era of high school. A time that marked the biggest periods of growth in our lives; a place that stayed home and heart to us for all these years. A final chance to shape this place for younger students is what a place on the student council means— a year-long swan song.

Being on the council constitutes toying with one’s interpretation of shape or change. There are endless ways to approach this, so — what matters to you? Being able to participate in activities like MUN, Founders and the interact club was what shaped me early on. With the school’s population growing larger,
I realised that what was most important was that everyone have something to participate in: platforms for everyone to have voice and agency.
The council can only change so much— but if every student is given the platform for change, then the progress we as a community could achieve would be unparalleled.
That is what every council must strive to do. Not only be the voice of the students, but also give a voice to every student.
